Kids with Autism

When autistic children reach adulthood, they will need a place to live, work, socialize…

Message From Our Founder:

“As a father of two children on the spectrum, one of my main concerns is, how will they be taken care of when their mother and I are no longer able to care for them? A question we share with so many parents is, How do we plan for the future of our children or my child with autism? Are there homes on Long Island for adults with autism? On Long Island, which has one of the largest clusters of children on the autism spectrum, many parents share this concern. It is also the concern of parents nationwide where autism is recognized as one of the United States’ most pervasive development disabilities.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 1 in 68 children in the U.S. is autistic. When these children reach adulthood, they will need a place to live, work, socialize and realize personal fulfillment in a community that embraces and supports them with person-centered planning. Where can we find a supportive living community on Long Island for adults with autism? What are the best living options on Long island for adults with autism?

To help meet this need, I, along with a group of equally committed individuals, have formed Long Island Autism Communities, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization which will be privately-funded with no dependence on government funding.” — Charles Massimo, Founder
